Obesity Threatens Women's Health in Great Britain

Obesity is the biggest threat to English women. The chief medical officer of the U.K., Sally Davies,  says that obese women have a shorter life expectancy than others. According to her new report , over half of British women between 34 and 54 years of age were classified as obese.

Health experts warn that the food industry should do more to produce healthier food, as well as beverages with less sugar. Others even demand a tax on sugary drinks and food that contains too much fat. Eating disorders , like anorexia or bulimia should be treated at a very early age. Such disorders are more common in women than in men. Obesity increases the risk of diseases, including diabetescancer, high blood pressure  and heart problems.

This year's report states that obese women who are expecting a baby are in danger of losing their child. Obesity also has an impact on how a child's life develops. The report adds that healthier women during pregnancy have better chances of having healthier children later on in life.

While excessive smoking and drinking alcohol are still major problems in Great Britain, obesity is at least as dangerous. But the public doesn't seem to give it the same attention as other threats. Britain's chief medical officer says that obesity should be included in national risk plans. That would make it as important as terrorism or climate change .
